FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF YOUR BOOTS
🧼 LOBLAN BOOT CLEANING GUIDE
At LOBLAN, we use tanned leather for all our models, renowned for its exceptional durability. This type of leather is resistant to water, stains, and even the most demanding terrain. Thanks to the minimal amount of finishing products we use on the leather, the footwear has a much more natural appearance that highlights its true beauty.
We offer two different guides to help you give your LOBLAN boots the care and attention they deserve: one for a quick clean and another for a more thorough cleaning.
Note: Before starting any cleaning process, always brush the entire boot with a dry brush to remove surface debris. This is essential to prevent dirt from becoming ingrained during cleaning.
🧽 LIGHT CLEANING
Remember that you should proceed according to the type of leather or finish your boots have.
NUBUCK LEATHER:
Nubuck is a top-grain leather that has been sanded or polished on the outer side to give it a soft, velvety texture. It is resistant to wear and tear and similar to suede.
-
Initial brushing: Use a brush specifically designed for nubuck or suede, preferably with rubber or brass bristles, and brush in one direction only to remove dust and surface dirt.
-
Removing light stains: If stains remain after brushing, use a special nubuck eraser or very fine sandpaper. Gently rub the stain and then brush again to restore the texture.
-
Additional protection: Consider applying a protective spray specifically designed for nubuck, which will help repel water and future stains. Make sure the product is suitable for this type of leather.
SMOOTH FINISH LEATHER:
-
Surface Cleaning: Use a slightly damp cloth with clean water to remove dust and dirt. Avoid soaking the leather.
-
Gentle Brushing: With a soft-bristled brush, gently rub in circular motions to remove any remaining residue.
-
Drying: Use a clean, dry cloth to dry the footwear. Let the boots dry naturally, away from direct heat or sunlight.
🧴 THOROUGH CLEANING
If your boots have very dirty areas or require a deeper cleaning, follow these steps:
-
Preparation: Remove the laces and insoles, if possible, to facilitate cleaning.
-
Applying Cleaner: Use a clean cloth or a soft brush and apply a commercially available leather cleaner. Be sure to follow the product instructions.
-
Removing Cleaner: Remove excess cleaner with a damp cloth. Avoid saturating the leather with water.
-
Drying: Let the leather dry naturally, away from artificial light or heat sources. DO NOT DRY IN THE SUN.
-
Conditioning: Apply a natural leather conditioner to preserve the finish and extend the life of your footwear. You can apply it with your fingers, a soft cloth, or a sponge. This helps moisturize dry leather.
-
Additional Protection: To add a layer of protection, use a leather protectant spray that provides an invisible shield against water, dirt, oil, and mud. If the leather has an oily finish, you can apply a moderate amount of oily polish (such as Mink Oil) without saturating it. No brush is required.
-
Final Drying: After applying the protectant, let the boots dry naturally again, away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent the leather from drying out and cracking.
Additional Tip: To maintain the shape of your boots while drying, you can stuff them with newspaper or use wooden boot trees. This will help preserve its structure and prevent deformation.
